About Mr Aftab

 

Mr Aftab qualified as a doctor in 1992. He was declared the ‘Best Medical Graduate’ of 1992 and was awarded 4 gold medals for standing first in all the professional examinations of the medical school. He passed his Fellowship examination in Ophthalmology from Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and Membership examination from Royal College of Ophthalmologists from London in 1996.

 

He did his Basic Surgical Training in Ophthalmology from University College Hospital Galway in Ireland and his Higher Surgical Training in Leeds, UK with the Yorkshire Ophthalmic Training Scheme. After finishing his Higher Surgical Training in Ophthalmology in UK he went to Australia in 2001 to sub-specialize in medical and surgical retina. He did Fellowship in Medical and Surgical Retina from ‘Centre for Eye Research Australia’ and ‘Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital’ in Melbourne. He is one of the few ophthalmologists in UK who have done Fellowship in both medical and surgical retina.

 

He was appointed Consultant with special interest in Medical and Surgical Retina at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust in 2002 where he started the vitreo-retinal service and set up one of the first ARMD (Age Related Macular Degeneration) Photodynamic Therapy Centres in UK. Mr Aftab helped in setting up of the Diabetic Retinal Screening Service in East Ridings of Yorkshire and South Humberside.

 

He is the Chair of the Hospital Consultant Committee and of the Local Negotiating Committee of Northern Lincolnshire & Goole NHS Foundation Trust. He sits on the Trust Management Board. He has the distinction of being awarded the maximum possible 9 Local NHS Clinical Excellence Awards. He has previously been appointed Lead clinician in Ophthalmology and a member of the Local Research Ethics Committee.

 

Mr Aftab has a keen interest in medical education. He has extensively lectured in the UK and internationally. He has sat on the medical advisory board of multinational pharmaceutical companies. He has organised number of international educational meetings in Ophthalmology. He is a Senior Honorary Clinical Tutor at Hull and York Medical School. He is a Fellow of Higher Education Academy of UK. Mr Aftab is the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Tutor responsible for postgraduate ophthalmic training in Northern Lincolnshire & Goole NHS Foundation Trust and a Consultant Educational Supervisor for foundation trainee doctors and specialist trainee registrars in the Yorkshire & Humber Deanery School of Ophthalmology.

 

Mr Aftab is a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists CESR Faculty and previously was the Chair of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists CPD subcommittee and member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Education Committee. He is member of the British Medical Association (BMA) UK Central Consultant Committee. He has represented all the UK consultants in the BMA Private Practice Committee. He is Deputy Chair of the BMA Yorkshire Regional Consultant Committee and is elected executive member of the Yorkshire Regional Council.

About Mr Majid

Mr Majid is a Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist & Vitreoretinal Surgeon at Bristol Eye Hospital. He consults privately at Nuffield Bristol Hospital and BMI Hospital Bath.

He is an expert in Cataract Surgery and uses all of the latest lenses including Premium Multifocal and Toric Lenses as well as the more Standard monofocal lenses that are used in the NHS.

He has advanced skills in managing problems experienced during cataract surgery and is the ‘Go-to man’ for second opinions and repairing complications.

He is a renowned expert in Cataract, Medical and Surgical Retina, Trauma and Ocular Inflammatory Diseases.

He also has advanced training in Eyelid Surgery. He undertook his training in Bristol, Taunton and Liverpool. He was awarded a PhD from the University of Bristol for his research on macular degeneration.

Mr Majid currently supervises 2 Surgical Retina fellows and 6 Senior Medical Retina trainees in his department and is involved in international clinical research trials. He is recipient of Wellcome Research Fellowship and Wellcome PhD Fellowship.

About Mr Hasan

Mr Syed Taseer Hasan completed his undergraduate studies in 1992 and has more than 25 years of experience in the field of ophthalmology. He has been working as a Consultant Ophthalmologist for the past 16 years.

His area of special interest is in cataract surgery and he has vast experience in the treatment of retina conditions including diabetic and age related conditions. He is a General Ophthalmologist and accepts referrals relating to all eye conditions.
He holds membership to several professional bodies including Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, Member of the British Medical Association, Member of the European Society of Retina Specialists, Member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
